I love poverty

I love poverty

A Chapter by JessyJacob

Most people who are born into wealth fear poverty. They avoid it, distance themselves from it, and never wish to experience it. But I am different"I love poverty, because I was not born into a rich family, and it became my greatest teacher.

Poverty teaches in a way nothing else can. It is like a newborn baby whose umbilical cord is cut"no one teaches the baby how to breathe, yet it breathes. Why? Because of the instinct to live, the will to survive. In the same way, poverty awakens that instinct within us. It teaches us how to stand in a world that feels vast and frightening, surrounded by all kinds of people, even when we feel completely alone.

Poverty teaches how to earn bread. But for some, it also teaches how to steal it. For many, it builds the strength to work hard; for a few, it leads them toward cheating. The lesson is not the same for everyone"it depends on the choices we make.

For me, poverty began teaching early"around the 7th grade. It showed me that life is not about sitting back and enjoying comfort at the expense of my parents’ struggles. It taught me responsibility, effort, and the dignity of earning.

When I look at people born with wealth, I see different outcomes. For some, it creates a generous and graceful heart. For others, it becomes a source of careless enjoyment. I once thought being rich was better"that when everything is within reach, there would be no need to cheat. But I realized poverty doesn’t force dishonesty; it only presents the temptation. The choice is still ours.

Despite everything, I still love poverty. It gave me both the deepest struggles and the richest understanding of life. Through my hard work, and even through my parents’ complaints, I learned to look beyond myself"to see others who suffer and help them without hesitation. Sometimes I wonder if that makes me kind or foolish, because I have lost much of what I earned. People take, and keep taking, as if even my blood and bones are not enough.

Yet, poverty gave me something greater than anything it took"it taught me how to stand up after falling. And once you learn that, no teacher in the world can surpass what you discover within yourself.

Life is a journey of rising and falling. The goal is not to avoid hardship or even being cheated, but to remain true"to walk straight, no matter the path.
