Blood and Bread

Blood and Bread

A Chapter by JessyJacob

Building Life Through Skills, Courage, and Consistency

I often think about whether money is always required to start a business. Many businesses do need investment in the beginning, but I have learned something important through experience"what truly matters is not only money, but skill, effort, and the willingness to start from wherever we are.

Every skill takes time to learn. Sometimes we must learn from experts, and that itself requires investment. But even small beginnings can grow into something meaningful. A small investment, when guided with discipline and learning, can slowly expand into a stable source of income.

I began my journey from scratch, without much financial support. Once, I started a small vegetable-selling idea with just ₹5000. I even rented a small space and tried to build something on my own. Around the same time, I received a job opportunity, and I had to pause that business. But that experience taught me something valuable"India is full of opportunities, and survival is possible when we are willing to try.

At that time, I was inexperienced. As a fresh engineering graduate, I believed success would come only through a job or by going abroad for higher studies. I thought earning more money meant going outside India and getting a better position. But life has shown me that opportunities exist everywhere, even in simple ideas if we are willing to see them.

Now, after some time, I find myself in between jobs again. My mind does not stay idle, and uncertainty brings stress. But instead of giving in to fear, I try to use this time to explore possibilities.

During these weeks, I began thinking of different paths. I considered starting a paper cup business, but the investment was too high. I also thought about manufacturing, but it required large capital, machinery, and space"something not feasible for me at this stage.

So I shifted my focus to something more practical and closer to my situation. I chose to learn fashion designing and stitching. I joined a course, started practicing cutting and sewing, and slowly began gaining confidence. I realized I could actually build a boutique, create designs, and manage small-scale work on my own. This idea also helped me explain to my family that I am using my time productively while learning a skill.

Through all of this, I have understood one truth clearly: to earn money, we either need capital or a skill. As a chemical engineer, I once dreamed of building a manufacturing unit and creating a brand. But that dream requires large investment, infrastructure, and support that is not possible for me right now. So I have chosen to postpone that vision for the future, when life allows it.

For now, I focus on what I can do today"small, steady growth. Even a simple business, built step by step, can bring dignity and financial independence. A woman can work, grow, and earn respect through her own efforts, even with limited resources.

Alongside this, I have also chosen to learn nutrition and dietetics. In this field, I see another opportunity to serve people. I hope to guide others about balanced diets, health, and lifestyle"especially in villages where awareness is still limited. I dream of conducting small health camps, helping people understand that both excess and deficiency in food can lead to disease.

This has become my long-term vision. Through this learning, I feel confident that I can build a meaningful career where I can support society while also earning a livelihood. Even simple consulting work, like a nutrition advisor, can bring both respect and income.

Now I realize something important: even if I am alone, even if I have limited money, I can still survive. Survival does not depend only on wealth"it depends on skill, adaptability, and inner strength.

My journey is still unfolding, but I share it with hope. If you are struggling to find your path or earn your daily bread, remember this"you are not without options. There is always a way forward, even if it begins small.

And this is my story"not of having everything, but of learning to build something from nothing, step by step, with courage.
