Death

Death

A Poem by Linda alexander

I kept you away from my ledger
The balance sheet did not include you
You still were hanging around me
You breathed on my face many times

Today you embraced me but I did not respond
You never left me a choice but to accept
I was smart to keep you away from me
I knew you are only certainty of my uncertain life

A very personal and thoughtful poem, beautifully expressed. Your life is made up of choices and decisions. It goes where you direct it. Death is inevitable and unavoidable but seldom in your keeping. You have no certainty of what it will be, only certainty that it will be.

Even in relationships, we keep records and scores. This splendid poem tells me so. The narrator sounds like a book keeper. Bravo...:).....

Yep. You are welcome...:).....
Ah, if the net balance does not include him, he was meant to leave. Splendid metaphors in this one. If it is not meant to be and we see the red flags, it is best to walk away. I like this one. Lydi**

Thanks a lot for the review and the visit, well said, take care
nice metaphors mixed in here...the ledger sheet...the balance that did not include him.
i think you meant "breathe" in line 4...

this death could be literal or metaphoric...the literal death of a partner we were smart not to get too close to...but also could be the death of a relationship...
we don't embrace because we know better.
