Cracked DoorA Chapter by Stephie.Santi
The next wave hit fast, sharper than she expected. Someone at work had misunderstood her email. The memory twisted into rage and Sophie's fist clenched at her sides.
Her phone glowing with unread notifications. Each one felt like and accusation. Her stomach churned. Her jaw tightened. Her shoulders burned. The mirror cracked- not shattering, just enough that the edges bent like a cracked lens. Sophie stepped closer. She could feel the heat of her anger in every muscle, a dangerous fire she couldn't yet control. And then, suddenly she was somewhere else. A storm raged around her. Wind howled, thunder cracked. Her reflection shouted over it, eyes wide with furry. "If they hurt you, destroy the first" It said. Sophie trembled. She had said things in the past she couldn't take back. She had destroyed relationships she loved. "I don't want to be this," she cried. The wind slowed. The reflection's eyes softened. "Anger is not evil. It's a boundary screaming." It said. Sophie closed her eyes and let the wind pass through her, instead of trying to fight it. She felt the tension drain from her body. When she opened her eyes, the storm had vanished. Back in the bathroom, her jaw still ached from clenching, but she was intact.
