Mission Semi-Impossible

Mission Semi-Impossible

A Chapter by Katheryn10

Joel

Joel walked in the room and looked around curiously. Annas bedroom had changed, or that's what it seemed like. Maybe it was just his senses.

Once he sat down on the chair by her desk, he asked, "So, what plan?"

Sophie was sitting on her bed looking at him like he'd just grown two extra noses in the last minute.

She quickly looked away when Joel started a staring contest.

"Well, I have an idea. We should go an get dad back. Maybe be can explain to the rogue vampires what happened. If we say that dad didn't change you then maybe they'll let him go." Joel frowned at that idea and even Anna looked uneasy as she said it out loud.

"And if that fails?" He added.

"Well, then, we go kidnap dad back and fight if they try and stop us." She practically purred at the idea of fighting.

"One problem... I can't fight." Joel interupted her fun image. Frowning, she got up and went to her book draw, pulled out a big binder and handed it to Joel.

"Read this. Dad gave it to me to help with fight training. In theory, everything you need to know about fighting is in there."

Joel gulped, "Well, okay, but didn't mum say something about a council?" He was trying to find any way that wouldn't involve attacking stronger vampires to death.

She looked thoughtful and then laughed, "Oh come on Joel, don't be such a whimp. You practically asked for this." She could hear my thoughts again, he thought.

"Yeah, I can." Anna raised her eyebrows at his naivity. That's not to say she wasn't naïve. The idea of going out and just retreiving their father back from these obvious bad guys was naïve enough for the strongest of people. Two newly developed vampires were hardly match for them.

"Who changed you Joel?" Sophie chirped in.

Joel looked uncomfortable for a moment but then Anna looked at him and said, "Yeah, who?"

"Oh some girl who lives in a mansion. Her name's Isabella." He finished and couldn't believe he was actually blushing. The thought of Isabella made him realise how much he missed her just in the past few hours he'd been home.

Anna smiled, "Great, maybe you could ask her how to get to the rogue guys and who the council is?" She sounded certain that he'd even contemplate doing that.

"Sophie, will you please stop staring at me like I'm a fruitsalad?! Seriously, it's driving me nuts." Joel blasted, and Sophie blushed and turned her head to the window. He sighed and looked at Anna pleadingly.

"I can't drag Isabella into this. It's not her battle, it's mine." He was so close to crying it was embarrassing.

Anna shrugged. "Fine. In that case it's down to fighting and you better read that book fast. We're going tonight." She stood up and walked to the door. Opening the door, she hinted for him to get out but Joel stayed put. She was getting irritated now.

"Come on, if you're going to do something, at least do this. You want to be the big shot, so do your own training. I'm not here to baby sit."

He slowly got up to leave, but before he left, he mumbled to Anna, "Okay, I'll go and ask Isabella, but you gotta promise no one else will get involved, not even Sophie."

Anna rolled her eyes. "It's a bit late for that. Sophie's already in. She wouldn't say no."

Joel cringed as she said that. "Seriously Anna, she's human. She can't go out with us. It's too dangerous."

They both left it at that as Anna closed the door in his face.

Anna

"Do you really think it's wise for that Isabella to get involved? I mean, she could be a rogue and we wouldn't know." Sophie lay down on the bed, staring at the ceiling. I lay next to her.

"Well, it wouldn't hurt to try. I highly doubt she's a rogue." I sat up straight. "I sure hope she isn't."

"Well, if I were you. I would check." Sophie sat up too and looked at me with a worried expression.

I walked over to the door, "You stay here while -" before I managed to say "go next door" Sophie was with me. I sighed and we walked out the door to Joels room.

I knocked twice but then barged in like he did to me. He looked up startled from his desk and rolled his eyes when he saw it was me and Sophie.

"What now? I'm reading it - like you told me to." he moaned. He turned back to the book.

I hovered behind him for a moment, thinking hard how to phrase what I was about to ask.

"You know this Isabella?" He nodded, "You don't think she could be a rogue do you? I mean, one of that group who took dad." He turned around and looked at me properly.

"I doubt it. Why?"

I shrugged. "Oh just Sophie suggested it might be best to ask, that's all." I peered over his shoulder, "So how's the reading going?"

He gave a heavy 'fed-up' sigh and I backed off a few steps.

"Why do you care? You're the one who wants to go off on this mission impossible"

"So... you don't want to get dad back from a group of vampires who might kill him?" I said venomously. He wasn't watching me now but I could tell from his thoughts he wished I would 'piss off' " in a manner of words.

"Of course I don't want dad killed. I'm not a monster." He faced me full on. "If you're so worried, why don't we go now? Oh wait, we cant! So don't make me out to be weak. You're just as helpless." He clenched his fists and turned around on the chair back to the book. With his head down, I could see I wasn't going to get anymore out of him. I turned to leave.

"If you dare bring anyone else in this family into this, I swear, Anna, I will be pissed."

I closed the door behind me.

Heading back to my room, I realised I hadn't really thought about the consequences of what we were about to do.

"Sophie, I really don't think you should come with us. It's not safe and you're human and well," She came over and hugged me before I started to cry, "I don't want to lose the only friend I have left." I finished.

"It's okay Anna, I'm here. I know I'm not a mission kind of gal but i'm sure it'll be fun. Besides, I have you and Joel to protect me." she smiled.

I walked to my bed.

"But we can't protect you all the time, that's what I'm trying to say. If Joel and I are trying to get past whoever is guarding the rogue place, how can we be sure you'll be safe? We can't."

"How long until we can leave safely, for you and Joel I mean?"

I looked at the window which was fully covered with layers of curtains to hide the sun.

"About 3, maybe 4 hours. We go as soon as the sun sets." I frowned. "But then all the other vampires in the area will be awake too. So you see, we really can't risk you coming." I put my foot down when she continued to protest, "No, you'll stay here with mum and the rest of the family. Or you go home now. Your choice. But those are the only choices you get." I said once I noticed her about to correct me.

She sulked for a moment, but soon accepted defeat.

"Sure. Fine. Whatever. I'll stay here."

She walked out of the room.
