O sleep!

Sleep Has Left My Eyes

Nowadays, sleep no longer rests in my eyes,
it lingers instead in awake through night,
in thoughts that never sit still.

I keep working through life,
never truly idle,
as if stillness itself might break me.

I know how life feels
when nothing flows smoothly�"
worry rises, pain follows,
and suffering quietly stays.

O sleep, come back to my eyes,
carry me away like a drifting sail,
to the one I love who lies awake with worry,
where even his eyelids refuse to close
watching the storm approach.

I see it too�"this storm.
And yet I tell myself,
it will pass again,
it will not stay to feast on us forever.

So I wake,
and I wait through the long night,
holding on to patience and hope,
until the storm lets go.

And one day,
we will sleep again as before�"
safe in our bed,
with peace returning quietly to us.
